In Delilah’s Eyes: Dog Training From A Dog’s Perspective by Cheryl Falkenburry is such a wonderful, humorous and instructional book on the how to’s of training. I love this book!
Coming from the dog’s perspective to understand so many typical behaviors is ingenious. Most humans have a hard time understanding why dogs do the things they do. In the book, Delilah gives the dog’s point of view; “it’s not misbehaving in our minds; it’s just responding to the environment around us and satisfying our needs.” She goes on to point out that “If humans understood how dogs view the world, I’m sure they would approach dogs in a different manner.”
The humorous topics like; “Catch Me If You Can,” “Helping the Chewaholic,” and “Dogs Bark, Birds Sing, Humans Talk,” make sense and offer humane and positive outlooks.
I love the steps that are `chunked down’ into bite size and easy to understand sequences seen through the dog’s eyes. This bridge to understanding behavior goes a long way to enhancing our ability to share our lives with dogs.
Many typical dog behaviors are demystified. Help is here to understand behaviors from the dog perspective rather than just the human perspective – and just as importantly, how to enhance our training and relationships. I have been recommending this book to all my clients with dogs. I have learned a few things myself and have been refreshing my training with my own dogs and horses using some of Delilah’s tips! I very highly recommend this book!

We’ve read several dog training books and watched videos and even attended classes, but this is by far the simplest, most concise instructional tool we’ve had thus far. The insights from the dog’s perspective help us to understand the WHY’s that make all the difference between success and failure in our relationship with our dogs.

I read this book because my grand daughter has a new dog, and I wanted to see if this would be a good book for her(she is 12). I found that it was written for all ages, and I even found some ideas I am using on my cat!

The book, “In Delilah’s Eyes” was recommended to me as “a fun book to enjoy whether you have a dog or not!” I couldn’t put it down and laughed all the way through. I also wanted to go out and get a dog so that I could use all the helpful information. This is a book that trains the human as well as the animal! The pictures of Cheryl, the author, and her wonderful dog, with practical step-by-step instructions by Delilah are fantastic as well as the art work and the way that Delilah has of expressing herself! This is a delightful book. Thank you Delilah and Cheryl. I hope there will be future books by this talented author. In Delilah’s Eyes: Dog Training From A Dog’s Perspective
